The Quest To Eat The Tastiest Wanton Noodles Has Begun
© Patrick Ho
A few days ago, I just uploaded my most ambitious and lengthy YouTube video.
This was Part 1 featuring dry Wanton Noodles or Wantan Mee.
To the uninitiated, this dish features springy egg noodles tossed in sweet-savory sauce, juicy pork char siew slices, and that signature wanton soup on the side.
Some establishments also cook noodles paired with Roast Pork, Braised Chicken Feet, Curry Chicken, Chicken Meats and even minced pork.
Nowadays, even the decadent Crispy Pork Lard (Chee Yow Char) is added for delicious crunch.
It’s comfort food, it’s a classic, and in Kuala Lumpur… it’s a battlefield of the best!
I am introducing you to three of my personal favorite spots located approximately 10-15 minutes from KL City.
Why these unknown places, you may ask? Are these the BEST wanton mee in the city?
Well, there are several factors why these places are featured.
I am searching for alternatives for the viewers and what more, many non-viral places need a boost from us fellow Malaysians.
The three featured places are Kedai Makanan Long Wan, Restoran Zhan Rong and a stall located on the 4th Floor food court of Salak Park mall, a.k.a SPARK.

How did I do the taste test?
It starts with the noodles – the texture, thickness… are they springy and firm to the bite. Some call it crunchiness, but how can noodles be crunchy?!
Then, there is the Char Siew.
Traditional old school styles are not so sweet, and is orange red in color.
Commonly, the glass char siews are very sweet and well-charred on the surface.
