We need to eat.

But, most Malaysians like me will tell you that there is more to just eating in Malaysia.

Food is part of our culture, traditions and racial identity.

This is due to our country being multi-racial and the time when merchant traders sailed to the Sultanate of Malacca (In Bahasa Malaysia: Melaka). This beginning not only attracted different people from China, the Middle East and Europe, but it also laid the foundation for the development of Malaysian food thanks to the different nationalities and culture.

Frankly, everyday we Malaysians would most certainly ask each other, "have you eaten?"

Better yet, most of our conversations with family and friends are always about where is the best place to eat this, and that!

On a recent trip to Melaka, my brother-in-law and his son brought me back to Kedai Hassan Mee Rebus located in Taman Jaya Padang Temu.

Mee Rebus translated to English is 'Boiled Noodles'.

Here's a backgrounder from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mee_rebus

It is very hard to describe the true taste of food in words. But, the mee rebus here is something else. The gravy is not too thick, a little sweet, but not too much, and perfectly savory.

The other stand out ingredients of the Malay dish are the taukua and the fried crispy kuih. The noodles I must say was perfectly al dente.

The other item that this place sells is the Mee Rojak. It is another must-try if you can see in the video.

When filming this YouTube segment, I was lucky to meet Hassan himself.

He has an aura of simplicity and always greets his customers with a million dollar smile, warmth and friendliness.

So, until the next post, thank you and happy days beautiful people!
