I BECAME A YOUTUBER!

"Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." —John F. Kennedy

Hello beautiful people.

Welcome to my blog if you're here for the first time.

My name is Patrick and I am very excited to share with you my new adventure in my life.

Being a former photojournalist of newspapers and editor-in-chief of Golf Digest Malaysia (Discontinued), embracing change from 2017 has been a good soul-searching experience.

After Golf Digest, I went into event management, PR and publishing services with several associates.

Some associations worked out and some crashed, due to my over-trusting nature and believe of certain individuals. It's ok, karma understood and realized.

The one memorable project was the event management of the Astro Masters event from 2018 to 2019. I will always be grateful to my partners Mohan and Cornelius who joined me on that wonderful journey of managing a series golf tournament that traversed Malaysia, ending with a Grand Final staged at overseas venues.

Then, Covid-19 came.

It was a time after the event management gig stopped. I had ventured into trading herbal supplements with a new partner called Rocky.

Before we could kick start our products, the MCO was enforced. Game over.

Even though we had enquiries for surgical masks or hand sanitizers, somehow our orders were always pushed aside by the suppliers, or factories.

I gave up...

I had lost my investment capital.

It was time to survive and change to find a way to reboot my income again.

A best friend dragged me into driving Lalamove. It helped buy food for awhile but deep inside, I knew it wasn't for me.

But, it was the MCO. So, I started selling all the golf product gifts that I never used just to put a meal or two on the table.

Then, my prayers were answered when an opening at Palm Garden Golf Club presented itself. The offer came very timely just when the money was running extremely low, and the pandemic easing.

After two wonderful years working for the golf club as the Sales & Marketing Manager, I took up an offer with a Korean digital golf scoring company by the name of Smartscore as business development director. My contract lasted slightly over a year due to a lack of interest from the golf clubs.

It was a clear sign for a well-deserved break. Let the river flow.

"No regrets and just be grateful for a fantastic life," I reflected.

But as we know it, it gets boring especially when I am only in my mid-50s, still fit, healthy and of sound mind!

Now, I can't remember exactly what spurred me or motivated me, but the idea of making YouTube videos popped up. Likely while watching one of the food vlogs.

I was convinced that this is it!

So, I started filming on my expensive Korean camera phone. Knowing that we all need to eat and want to know where to eat; food videos was it.

Remember the Section 14 market and Medan Selera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cmp_NsiaFU&t=8s

I am also a keen foodie myself due to my enriched life of being able to travel to different countries and trying all sorts of food at hotels and in the streets. No pantang for me when it comes to food... just taste and let your senses enjoy the moment. Or not!

The plan for me is to learn as much as possible from other YouTube content creators and digital nomads. Do what I love and feed my soul.

The editing part is enjoyable, especially playing with sound effects!

How long will I go with this venture?

This time, I don't have to care anymore.

Just follow my calling as a creator.

Film what I want to see, enjoy the interviews with the man-on-the-street, and pass relevant information to future generations.

Most importantly, I am free.
