WHEN IS ENOUGH, ENOUGH?
How much more do we need? Where are we headed?
There have been countless times that I have thought: "How did we get to where we are now?
Just ponder on these:
- Who invented money that we are slaves to?
- Were technological inventions created to rule our lives?
- Has modernization killed the simple way of life?
Getting a fixed salary is great, but we have to admire those that were born to be ambitious leaders that always strive to run their own business.
Many have fallen and risen, but most have failed and lost a lot of money.
Then, there are those in power that become corrupted leaders whose greed sees them implicated in boxes of cash, expensive designer bags and jewellery.
So how much money is enough for us?
Before we seek answers to that question, we should ask ourselves, "Why do we need so much money?
Maybe one should consider these points before spending more money stupidly:
- Buy only what you need
- Spend less than your monthly income
- Does my soul need this?
You don't need a car to announce to the world that "you have arrived in life". It's a lifestyle myth created by brand marketing experts.
So, where is human consumption headed? Is supply outweighing demand?
Just a few days ago I was discussing the topic of the retail business with a businessman.
He asked, "With so many existing shopping malls and more in the pipeline, do we have enough retailers and shoppers to fill this space?"
Definitely not... just look around any mall in Malaysia - every complex offers the same brands.
Every mall is making money from you the consumer paying for parking space, buying a product (that you don't need!) and eating food that is over priced due to expensive retail space.
So, is this what they call "lifestyle" or "retail therapy"?
