Is it the water, the air that we breathe or the smartphones screwing up the character and personality of humans?
Last night, a friend and I were talking about the topic of people having the lack of respect for others.
This conversation arose when the lady driver of a parked car was honking non-stop for at least 10 minutes before the driver of the other car that was blocking her in showed up.
To our horror, that driver did not even apologize, jumped into his car and drove away. Obviously, the lady was furious and who could blame her.
Zero points for humanity.
I myself have been blocked in for at least half an hour once in my life. Then, I was parked in Kuchai Lama in the early 2000's.
There was no contact number on the windscreen and I was obviously late for my appointment with a customer.
When the lady finally appeared her apology was very difficult for me to accept because she said nonchalantly, "I was stuck in a meeting". Already pissed I jabbed back, "So, you are the only person on this planet who has meetings?! Did you know you delayed my attendance of my meeting for half an hour?"
My last line has to be censored for obvious reasons because deep down I truly felt that this blur banana, ignorant b***h needed a spanking! She was lucky I am a well brought up gentleman!
Apart from this story, there are other 'disrespectful human' stories to share. Most are from friends' experiences who relate how they have been shown little or no respect from clients and bosses.
One such lack of respect story involves a lady friend who had to put up with a business unit manager at work, who was more focused on polishing the boss's ass. Apparently, this man was a selfish "shiok sendiri" opportunist who operated like he had absolute power and like he was the confidant of the tycoon owner of this public listed company.
His modus operandi was to act like he knew all the rich and powerful, and famous celebrities of Malaysia. He craved for attention and unearned credits for others' achievements and was bossy to say the least.
But, when it came to paperwork and reports I was told, the man could not perform due to a poor command of English, lack of training and academic qualifications.
So each year, my unfortunate and hardworking lady friend always had a poor KPI rating from this useless disrespectful human. From what she told me, he did not even realize one KPI was wrongly included under her job scope.
From this, what picture does it paint of this person's character and how was he put in charge by the owner of this Malaysian public-listed company?
Just imagine if this scenario is played out daily in many other companies?
Of course, I have friends and former colleagues who always tell me, "biasalah boss mana-mana kita kerja" ("Where ever we work it is the norm boss"). I of course would give advise that these sort of management culture cannot be accepted if we want to leave a better world for future generations.
Whatever happened to good leadership, integrity and respect for others? What about the funds spent on training?
Live you life with self-respect and have respect for others no matter what rank or status they carry.
For life is fleeting. Make the most of your time on Earth.
Thank you.
