After more than a year of enduring the Covid-19 pandemic, many people have had to make drastic sacrifices and adjustments to their lives.
Masks have become a mandatory piece of clothing for the majority, while there are those who do not believe in masking up.
Don't they trust the science?
A child's formative years in school has become abnormal to say the least... home schooling and online classes was the safe way to go.
But, as many experts have said, the foundation laying of a child's psyche has been affected.
Most kids without siblings will not learn how to overcome their fear of standing up to bullies.
Normal social skills will also be lacking in years to come.
The worse part is the lack of play time and interaction with other children.
While children will be children, and all is not lost, the actions and reactions of adults during the pandemic offers food for thought.
A friend informed me of how a leading restaurant in Changkat Bukit Bintang was asked by their landlord to vacate the premises if they were unable to pay their rent.
This was at the start of the pandemic last year when the first Movement Control Order was enforced in Malaysia.
Where is the compassion, you would ask?
To add insult to injury, the restaurant operators have been in business for more than 20 years.
Wouldn't collecting rent for more than 20 years have covered the installments of the property?
This was followed by more stories of retailers who could not pay rent at shopping complexes and etc.
I was told that most landlords refused to lower the rent.
Some complexes were kinda, offering discounts on rent or a rental rebate to be paid within a time frame.
It was the same in the housing sector.
The majority were not spared but the lucky ones did receive a discount on their monthly rental.
A friend was even more compassionate, "I told my tenant to pay me when he is financially stable. After all, the poor chap was laid off."
During MCO's, one of the best time killer activities was forwarding trash on Whatsapp.
It's bad enough that some of us receive dozens of 'Good Morning' images and news links every day.
I don't mind that, but sometimes I realize that most of these friends are not even close or even cared for me.
I am fine with that though because it keeps me occupied!
The thing I hate most is being sent fake news and we mistakenly forward it to friends or share them on social media.
Boom!
On the subject of social media, it seems everyone has become an expert of some sort.
Most are unwittingly drawn to make hate comments without checking the facts.
So, where are we headed, we have to ask?
We can only be grateful if the majority of humans be blessed with awareness and compassion.
Have a nice day and BE NICE.
