If you are a member of a golf club, what are your expectations?
Many Malaysian golfers that I have spoken to have always told me that they feel that they haven't got their money's worth.
Some compare their clubs with those in Thailand and Indonesia.
Most of the time, it is down to the smallest details and whatever budget is made available to the management and staff.
And yes, golfers can be the most demanding consumers out there.
Obviously so with the amount of life savings that they have spent on a membership, not to mention the monthly subscriptions.
So, which part of the game would a golf club need to up their game on?
There are so many touches that make a golf club appealing to its members and non-members.
Here are some ideas and opinions from past experiences:
1) REGISTRATION COUNTER: Clubs must constantly train their front line staff to SMILE. Staff who are able to speak English, Bahasa Malaysia and other languages is a big asset. Speed of golfer registration is another part that needs attention. Reduce the waiting time. Cut down on the process if able.
2) F & B: Nothing wins over a Malaysian more than good food. Ensure quality and freshness. Don't cut corners, and make sure food is delivered fast. Service staff must be polite and friendly. Good food can be "spoilt" by a rude staff member.
3) GOLF COURSE: Your course doesn't have to be a venue that have hosted a major professional tournament. Invest in a qualified superintendent. Nothing errs a golfer more than bad maintenance. Courses that have poor greens and fairway conditions should not be charging exorbitant green fees. Use good sand for bunkers.
4) LOCKER ROOMS: Please provide clean and new towels! Change the 15-year-old carpet and cupboards. Hygiene is everything in this area of the club. Provide good quality toiletries, if not don't provide any at all!
That's my two cents worth and I am sure many have better ideas.
We have so many beautiful golf courses nationwide.
Let's make them better!
