Sorry for this late post but I don't blog much.
As you can tell, I have changed the previous blog name to Golf Paths.
This is because I am very much linked with the golf business in my beloved Malaysia, and, I don't travel much these days.
Signs of old age perhaps?
Yes, I have stopped travelling to the world outside Malaysia for a long time. So far!
After leaving Golf Digest Malaysia in February 2018, it has been a learning curve of sorts and being set free to say the least.
I have been blessed to be accepted as a managing partner at Twenty First Century Media Sdn Bhd last year.
It was a nostalgic return to the advertising and marketing communications industry.
And boy, have I missed it.
Creating ideas for brands and on-ground marketing activities is what I love doing the most.
It is even more fun now with the "option" of digital disruption tools and social media platforms.
As most new businesses go, acquiring jobs these days has been difficult to say the least.
We were blessed to be selected as a supporting agency to handle the overall media management for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon.
It was a joy working with the team at Dirigo.
I realised that my past habit of ensuring good networking with key people (who have become long-term friends), upholding integrity and respecting people, has helped me put food on the table.
God bless you all.
The greatest achievement of 2018 for us was definitely winning the tender for the Prudential Astro Masters.
It was a joy to make a return to the golf industry which I have been so welcome since I joined A'Famosa Golf Resort in the year 2000.
Of course there was hardwork, but I love nothing more than to be connected to the golf community and to support golf's growth in the country.
The participants were great and it reminded me how important a role those of us in the industry play.
From qualified feedback, I have heard about the majority of golf companies being hit by a downturn in 2018.
This "slump" began right before the 14th General Elections.
It seemed, even attractive discounts on offer did not work.
And, large brand names had to re-structure their business direction.
Many staff laid off and orders reduced dramatically.
However, I am sure the leaders of the golf business will come together again, as we always have, to ride through the rough seas.
There is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
All you need is to do is ask for qualified and professional assistance and opinions.
A word of caution though, one man's word (or woman) does not hold the key to your company's success.

Poor marketing and customer service doesn't help. Too many in the industry simply sell on price rather than promoting the benefits/features of courses/equipment etc
