I commute daily on the Federal Highway.
Like hundreds and thousands of Malaysians and expatriates.
We drive, ride and cycle, or use the trains and buses.
But have you noticed how scary it is to drive these days?
I ask this because a lady (and I am trying my best to be civilized!) in a red Mazda CX3 nearly caused a pile-up entering the corner of the old palace exit towards Petaling Jaya.
How you may ask?
She was busy talking and texting on her smartphone, swerving suddenly into the corner at the last minute.
The car in front had no choice but to slam on the brakes.
Luckily, some of the old reflexes from the karting days helped and I avoided crashing.
Passing the red Mazda a minute later, I saw her texting on her smartphone (stupid!).
Her car swerving from side to side.
From the middle lane, she wanted to change to the left lane suddenly...
Nearly crashing into another vehicle.
That was bad driver number one.
The second incident I witnessed was how an old Perodua Kancil changed lanes without indicating.
It nearly took out a really small kapchai.
The kapchai rider was incensed, even kicking out at the car.
Are kapchai riders allowed on the Federal Highway anyway?
I don't remember the traffic laws allowing them on the highway.
There is a motorcycle lane though, even though many motorcyclists have said on social media that it was in poor state and with some stretches having the potential to cause accidents.
For one, I personally feel that common courtesy is dead among Malaysians these days...
Is it me or does it seem like people are not respecting each other these days?
Maybe I should just go full time as a Uber or Grab rider.
