Lessons in life, no brainers

"Do not make the same mistakes," said my manager and first boss in my life at A&W Restaurant, Mr. Eddie. "And, when you do something, do it right." I will never forget his words at 17 years old. The same words that were drilled into me by my parents. They were trained during the colonial era of course. At work, those principles have kept me out of trouble. As humans, we do make mistakes. We have to learn from them. However, what saddens me is how the new generation today are not even affected or moved by their mistakes. "Is this an ugly Malaysian trait?" I once asked myself. Maybe it is upbringing? Or could it be the lack of accountability that has crept into the very foundation of the country's society? While no concrete answers can ever be given by those responsible, we must act now at home. Disciplining our children starts at home. Don't even expect teachers to do it for you, although I harbour hope that there are some heroes lef
